Re-Imagining Canada
The following Monday, in the Agora, Dr. Rui Wang, Vice-President (Research), presided over the official campus opening of Research & Innovation Week. In his remarks he reminded listeners that research growth at Lakehead University between 2002 and 2007 was more than double that at other universities across Canada!Special guest Dr. Chad Gaffield, President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, congratulated Lakehead on its many successful partnerships. Later, during his luncheon keynote address, Gaffield encouraged the Lakehead community to “re-imagine” its campuses and its campus-community connections in order to embrace the new, distinguishing characteristics of the 21st century: creativity, complexity, and diversity.
Throughout the week there were many different events held on campus including several public talks and film screenings - among them, the premiere of Dr. Judy Iseke-Barnes’ film A Living History of Métis Families as told by Dorothy Chartrand.
Displays from funding agencies, research partners, and vendors were set up in the Agora.
